The magnificent palaces and park landscapes in Potsdam are no accident – feng shui was already known in Europe at the time (even if by another name, geomancy) and was a recognised discipline and basis for the planning of sites, buildings and gardens.
In this vein, The Great Elector commissioned his friend Johannes Moritz von Nassau-Siegen to geomantically survey a good place for his secondary residence in the neighbourhood of Berlin, thereby laving the foundations of the success story of Potsdam and Prussia.
